The monthly price on a listing is the rent for one person. For two people sharing the same room the rent is higher, by £130 to £217 a month on today’s rooms. Bills, council tax and Wi‑Fi stay included, so there is still one payment a month and no extra monthly fees.

What changes when you rent together
- Right to Rent for both of you. In England the landlord must check every adult aged 18 or over who will live in the home, whether or not they are named on the agreement. See Right to Rent checks explained.
- One holding deposit, not two. The cap of one week’s rent applies per tenancy, not per person.
- References. We run referencing based on the option selected, which may include affordability checks and/or a landlord reference, and tell you what each of you needs after you apply.
- A joint tenancy, if you both sign. When more than one tenant signs the same agreement it is a joint tenancy, and you are both responsible for the rent.
- Ending it. On a joint tenancy, one tenant can usually end the tenancy for both by giving notice, without the other’s agreement. Talk it through before you sign.
Choosing a room for two
- Check the listing says “Singles or couples”: rooms for one person can’t be shared.
- Look at storage for two: wardrobe space, drawers and under-bed storage.
- If you both work or study from home, check the desk and where a second person would work.
- Decide whether a private bathroom matters to you, or whether sharing one with the house is fine.
- Book a viewing together, so you can both see the room and the shared spaces.

Questions and answers
Can couples rent a room with GladStay?
Yes. Some rooms are suitable for couples right now, in Wimbledon, Whitechapel, Camberwell, Tower Bridge, Bermondsey and Wandsworth. Each listing says “Singles or couples” when two people can live there.
Do couples pay more rent?
Yes, on these rooms the rent for two is higher than the listed price for one: £130 to £217 more a month on today’s rooms. Bills stay included.
Do we both need Right to Rent checks?
Yes. In England the landlord must check every adult aged 18 or over who will live in the home as their main home.
Is the holding deposit per person?
No. The holding deposit is capped at one week’s rent per tenancy, so a couple pays one holding deposit between them.
What happens if one of us wants to leave?
On a joint tenancy, one tenant can usually end the tenancy by giving notice without the other’s agreement. If one of you wants to stay, the landlord can create a new agreement.
Are bills included for two people?
Yes. Electricity, gas, water, council tax and Wi‑Fi are included in the rent, with no extra monthly fees.
